Tunnel Defects in Dentin Bridges: Their Formation Following Direct Pulp Capping
Clinical Relevance:
This study reemphasizes the need to amploy biologically relevant measures that will provide a long-term clinical seal against microleakage following direct pulp capping with Ca(OH)2 medicaments alone.
A Suggested Method for Mixing Direct Filling Restorative Gallium Alloy.
Clinical Relevance:
The handling properties of a gallium-based alloy were significantly improved by the addition of a trace amount of alcohol.
A Review of Polymerization Contraction: The Influence of Stress Development versus Stress Relief.
Clinical Relevance:
Understanding the principles that may interfere with ideal bonding of resins to dentin is necessary to provide clinicians the opportunity to improve the quality of their restorations.
A Clinical Evaluation of the Electric Pulp Tester as an Indicator of Local Anesthesia.
Clinical Relevance:
The electric pulp tester can be used as a valuable tool to effectively predict the level of anesthesia prior to the initiation of an operative (restorative) procedure.
Effect of Mode of Conditioning Treatment on Efficacy of Dentin Bonding.
Clinical Relevance:
Mechanical agitation of conditioning agents during application on dentin and enamel are considered neither necessary nor desirable.

Restoration of Supporting Teeth for Existing Removable Partial Dentures.
Restoring Class 6 Abrasion/Erosion Lesions with Direct Gold.
Surface Roughness of Composites and Hybrid Ionomers.
Clinical Relevance:
Aluminum-oxide disks produced smoother finished surfaces for hybrid ionomers and composites than did a 12-fluted finishing bur.
Laboratory Evaluation of Surface Treatments for Composite Repair.
Clinical Relevance:
High bond strengths can be achieved in composite repairs by roughening the surface of a cured composite.
The Effect of Microabrasion on Restorative Materials and Tooth Surfaces.
Clinical Relevance:
Judicious use of the Prema microabrasion technique is advised.
Sealing Capacity of a Resin-modified Glass-Ionomer and Resin Composite Placed in Vivo in Class 5 Restorations.
Clinical Relevance:
A resin-modified glass-ionomer cement performed as well as a hybrid composite resin when placed in class 5 preparations in vivo.
Opacity and Color Changes of Tooth-colored Restorative Materials.
Clinical Relevance:
Light-cured composites are much more color stable than chemically cured composites. Resin-modified glass-ionomer cements showed marked darkening and increase of translucency initially.

Effect of Desiccation on Microleakage of Five Class 5 Restorative Materials.
Clinical Relevance:
Increased microleakage, following a period of desiccation corresponding to typical treatment times, indicates that clinicians need to protect previously placed restorations from undue drying during subsequent dental treament.
Effect of Triturator Speed Variation on Physical Properties of Encapsulated Glass-Ionomer Luting Cements.
Clinical Relevance:
Decreased mixing speed prolongs working and setting times of glass-ionomer luting cements.
Surface Roughness of Light-activated Glass-Ionomer Cement Restorative Materials after Finishing.
Clinical Relevance:
The surface left by a Mylar strip provides the best surface for light-activated glass-ionomer cement materials; hwoever, if additional finishing is required, either ET finishing diamonds or a series of Sof-Lex disks will provide the smoothest surface.
Influence of Bonded Amalgam Restorations on the Fracture Strength of Teeth.
Clinical Relevance:
Bonding dental amalgam to tooth structure with resin adhesives may provide an increase in fracture resistance to the restored tooth.
Effect of Dentin Primer on the Shear Bond Strength between Composite Resin and Enamel.
Clinical Relevance:
This study suggests that the effect of primer on bonded composite resin to etched enamel is material specific.
Fatigue of Resin-bonded Amalgam Restorations.
Clinical Relevance:
The strengthening effect of an adhesive resin on teeth restored with MOD amalgam restoratiosn was transient.

Cavity Sealers, Liners, and Bases: Current Philosophies and Indications for Use.
Clinical Relevance:
Understanding the properties of currently available materials and how they interact with pulpal tissues can help the practitioner decide when to use bases and liners and which products to choose.
Bond Strength of Composites to Hybrid Ionomers.
Clinical Relevance:
Composites were found to have high tensile bond strength when bonded to hybrid ionomers.
Cavity Disinfectants and Dentin Bonding.
Clinical Relevance:
The use of cavity disinfectants with composite resin restorations appears to be material specific regarding their interactions with various dentin bonding systems' ability to seal dentin.
A Survey of Failure Modes in Composite Resin Restorations.
Clinical Relevance:
Class 4 and 5 Restorations fail twice as fast as class 3 composite restorations; therefore caution is called for when making a decision to treat noncarious class 5 lesions.
Influence of Dentin Primer Application Methods on Dentin Bond Strength.
Clinical Relevance:
Primer application methods can influence dentin bond strength.

Fluoride Release from Fluoride-containing materials
Clinical Relevance:
All fluoride-containing materials tested continued to release a small amount of fluoride at 28 days.
Effect of Condensation Techniques on Amalgam Bond Strengths to Dentin.
Clinical Relevance:
Condensation technique does not have an effect on shear bond strength on amalgam bonded to dentin under these tested conditions.
Early Bonding of Resin Cements to Dentin -- Effect of Bonding Environment.
Clinical Relevance:
Early bond strengths strongly indicate that newly cemented restorations should not be loaded for at least 1 hour after insertion and that excess cement should be removed before setting.
In Vitro Microleakage of Etched and Rebonded Class 5 Composite Resin Restorations.
Clinical Relevance:
Rebonding the gingival margins of class 5 composite resin restorations significantly reduced microleakage under laboratory conditions.

Clinical Relevance:
The ParaPost XT system can be used when a more retentive design with a passive apical end is desired.
The Difference in Degree of Conversion between Light-cured and Additional Heat-cured Composites.
Clinical Relevance:
When composite resins were heated in an inlay oven, there were significant increases in the degree of conversion.

Clinical Relevance:
Critical assessment of tooth-colored restoratives and adhesive dentistry is mandatory if dentists are to make the transition into the postamalgam age without loss of quality treatment for their patients.

Clinical Relevance:
Treatment of heat-processed composite resin with an air-abrasion or ceramic-deposition system is an important step in maximizing the strength of the resin-to-cement bond.
